What will I be learning in this course?

HCBS: The Basics is a course about Home and Community-Based Services. Whether you’re new to HCBS or a seasoned provider, we know you will benefit from this training. If you’d like to learn more about what is covered in this course, take a look at our HCBS: The Basics Syllabus.

What is a “magic link” and how do I use it?? 

A magic is a link made just for you. You can use this link to take you directly to your HCBS: The Basics portal. This link was sent to you in an email. Keep it in a safe place! You can use it if you ever get logged out by just clicking on the link to bring you back to where you left off in the course.

Can I share my magic link with someone else who wants to take the course? 

Please don't share your magic link with anyone else. This link was made just for you and each course is meant only for one user. If someone you know wants to take the course, they can sign up for it here or contact us at hello@aloconsultation.com

Can I really not share the course with someone else?

You can always share what you’ve learned in HCBS: The Basics with your colleagues, friends, people you support and anyone else! But know that at the end of the course, you’ll get a certificate for all the work you’ve done. Anyone looking at the course through your portal will not get credit or a certificate unless they have purchased the course themselves.

What if I want to log in with a password instead? 

A password was sent to you in the same email your magic link was in. You can change this password by going into your account settings if you want to. If you cannot locate the email with your magic link or your password, please contact us at hello@aloconsultation.com.

How do I answer questions and show that I've finished a task? 

Under each video lesson, you will see a group of tasks with instructions. Examples of some of the tasks are writing a response, answering a question, or leaving a comment for the community. Once you’ve done the task, you’ll need to click the button at the bottom that says you've finished it (it might say something like "Done it!" or "Answered it!").The task will show as unfinished until you click this button.

I’ve done all my tasks, but it won’t let me move onto the next lesson.

Make sure you've completed all the tasks in your lesson and clicked the button at the bottom of each one to mark it as finished. If any of the “Done It” buttons are not clicked, you will not be able to move to the next training. If you've done this and still can't move on, please reach out to us at hello@aloconsultation.com and we'll help you get unstuck.

Can I move on to the next lesson without finishing all the tasks? 

To move on, you must finish all the tasks in a training. There are Extra Credit tasks that do not need to be completed to move on. This course must be taken in order, which means the next training is not available until you complete the training before it.

Is there a way to move through the course faster or take my time with the course?

The course videos can be sped up or slowed down to the speed that’s right for you. To change the speed of the training, hover your mouse on the bottom right corner of the video. A tool icon will appear. Once you click on this, you can change the speed to fit your needs. Make sure you don’t go too fast though, you might miss something important!

Is my information private when I submit answers?

All of the answers you write are private to our team. We will not share what you’ve written with anyone else. However, comments that you make on the community forum are public and you will be able to see other student’s comments also. You’ll know you are writing in the community forum when you are typing into the space at the bottom of each training page.

What are "XP" points? What do they mean?

XP points are the points you’ll collect throughout this course as you complete tasks and spend time learning. These points show your progress and the work you’ve done.. Enjoy watching the number go up as you move through the course and gain valuable knowledge!

What are "XXP" points? How do I earn them? 

XXP points are Extra Credit  points. You earn these by doing extra tasks throughout the course. You’ll be able to tell that they are Extra Credit and you aren’t required to do these extra tasks if you don’t want to. However, we encourage you to try as many of these tasks as you can!

What is a comment? How do I leave a comment and respond to others' comments? 

Comments are a way to connect with the community. Comments are public and anything you write as a comment, others will be able to see. You’ll also be able to see any comments that have been made by others taking the course. To write your comment, go to the bottom of the page and enter your thought in the comment box. Make sure you click "Post" when you're done, or your comment won't be saved. To reply to a comment, click on the speech bubble under the comment you want to reply to. Write your comment in the box that shows up, and make sure you click "Post" when you're done.

How can I see all of the trainings in the course?

All of the course content can be found on the "All Modules" page. To see the list of trainings inside a module, click on that module. Only trainings you've unlocked will be available to you. You must finish courses in order, and you must finish all tasks in a training to unlock the next one.

How do I get to the next training after finishing the current one?

To move on to the next training, click on the training below all of the tasks after you've finished them. It will look gray until you've finished the tasks from the training before and unlocked it.

How long will I have access to the course? 

Your one time purchase allows you to access this course whenever you want. Please see specific Terms and Conditions for more information. We will be adding updates to this course from time to time and those will also be available to you as part of your purchase.

How do I turn off notifications?

If you don't like the course notifications that show up after you unlock lessons, click on your profile picture in the top right corner, then click on account settings and turn notifications off.
